Google - a Stanford U. project designed to find the most relevant Web pages and rated the best in a number of reviews.
Alltheweb - allow anyone to find anything faster
AltaVista - another good general search engine for various things
Ask.com - what do you think of this one? type a question in normal language and see what you get.
Yahoo! - a directory search (people categorize URLs)
Search Engine Colossus - A great site with links to a huge variety of search engines organized by country or category.
Worio Search - includes a "discovery search" to bring up resources not usually associated with typical keyword searches.
Meta Search Engines
Dogpile - "sites that have purchased ranking are blended in" and don't come out on top
Ixquick is a metasearch engine that was given the highest ratings by both Search Engine Watch and ZDNet's SearchIQ.
Mamma is the "mother" of all search engines.
Clusty - "searches a number of free search engines and directories"
Multimedia Searches
Searching for audio and video clips
- Use key words in search engines that can do audio/video searches.
- Look for the Advanced Search options that allow you to choose a particular file format, length, language, offensive content filter, date, etc.

Google's Advanced Video search - there is also a Google Video site you can search there
YouTube - http://youtube.com
TeacherTube - http://teachertube.com/ - YouTube that has been "cleaned up" for education

Audio - Search for MP3 Files (mostly music)
Podcasts (mp3 audio files)
You don't need an MP3 player to listen - you can listen from a webpage on your computer.
Google - search for "podcast +[your language]"
A good place to search is Podcast Alley
Do the search - Choose Genre: Education, and browse
Or type a language in the search box, and pick one of the resulting list
Choose the "Details" link, and then you will get to mp3 files there (usually).
Right-click and Copy Link Location.
If you have iTunes installed on your computer,
Go to the Store > Podcasts > Education > Language Courses for many podcasts.
The search at the top of the window will get you a mix of podcasts, music for sale, etc.
Look for the free podcasts.
You can also access the country-specific iTunes Store.
Go to the Store, then scroll to the bottom and choose the country/flag of your choice

SeekaSong.com - seeks other search engines, has a top 20 list of many countries
MP3Raid.com
MP3Fresh.net
Follow the links to download until you get the MP3 file alone on the page, then copy the URL

After downloading, you can edit the file with Audacity.

NOTE: if you get a photo download named "spaceball" - you are not allowed to download and save it!
